School of Biotechnology Career Counseling at High Schools of Nha Trang City
On November 21, 2022. The School of Biotechnology has collaborated with the Student Affairs Department to participate in the career counseling program at Nguyen Van Troi High School ((http://nvtroi.khanhhoa.edu.vn/) and Ly High School (http://lttrong.khanhhoa.edu.vn/), the two largest high schools in Nha Trang City. Dr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Dean of the School of Biotechnology, introduced the International University, Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City (IU-VNU.HCM, https://hcmiu.edu.vn/) as well as the university’s education majors and enrollment methods for 2023. Students from both schools had many questions concerning the majors offered by IU-VNU.HCMC, particularly Biotechnology ((http://bt.hcmiu.edu.vn/about-us-2/depts/biotech/), Food Technology (http://bt.hcmiu.edu.vn/about-us-2/depts/foodtech/) and Biochemistry ((http://bt.hcmiu.edu.vn/about-us-2/depts/biochem/).
Besides, what high school students are most concerned about is the problem of English when planning to study at the International University (IU). Because the International University of Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City is the first public university in Vietnam to use English for teaching, learning, and communication during 4 years of study.
Dr. Nguyen Van Thuan give a question to high school students: “When you were 1-4 years old, did you go to school?”
All students answered: “NO.”
Dr. Thuan continued: “So, at the age of 3–4, did you already know how to speak Vietnamese with your parents and friends?”
All students answered: “YES”
After answering, high school students understood that language is IMITATION, and Dr. Thuan also told them that although the freshmen did not know much English, with 4 years of studying at the IU-VNU.HCMC with 100% learning and communicating in English, students are able to speak English fluently and naturally after graduation. This is an advantage for students who graduate from IU-VNU.HCMC in recruiting at companies after graduation as well as applying for scholarships to continue graduate study in developed countries such as the United States, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Korea, etc.
In the afternoon of the same day, the School of Biotechnology had an interesting seminar for the 12th graders of Ly Tu Trong High School with an interesting topic: From cells to the universe.
Every year, the number of high school students of Nha Trang City entering the school of Biotechnology is very high. We hope that many Nha Trang high school students will enroll in the school of biotechnology in 2023.
